Moreland Council election has come around again.

For North-east ward 4 Councillors are to be elected, from 19 candidates.
For North-west ward 4 Councillors are to be elected, from 17 candidates.
For South ward 3 Councillors are to be elected, from 15 candidates.

I don’t know about you but I want Councillors that are prepared to engage with residents on multiple issues.

We have been tracking candidate responses to community group surveys, pledges and forums on various issues. What we are interested in reporting is engagement, not the respective views of candidates to a particular survey.

This provides a measure for candidate engagement.

Do you really want to elect someone who only talks to their community circle and ignores other significant citizen engagement?

Scoring Notes:
Climate Forum: 5 for attending, 2 for apology, 1 for responding but not attending, 0 for no response
Climate Survey: 5 for responding, 0 for no response
Climate Emergency Photo 3 for photo, 0 for no response
Walk on Moreland: 5 for responding, 4 for responding but not answering the questions, 0 for no response
Fair Parking Moreland: 5 for answering, 4 for responding but ‘failing’ test, 0 for no response
Hosken Reserve Pledge: 5 for pledging, 4 for responding but not answering yes or No, 0 for no response
Rainbow Pledge: 5 for pledging, 3 for partial pledge, 0 for no response
ASU Pledge: 5 for pledge, 0 for no response

Some surveys have a pass/fail judgement call. We are interested in engagement, not so much the responses. We do take into account when candidates do not respond in the format suggested, by a slight discount in the scoring.

Three candidate forums were held, one in each ward. 33 responses were received to the climate survey of candidates. Both the forums and candidate survey can be viewed at Climate Action Moreland.
